How Are We Saved By Grace?

Richard Thetford

All Christians will admit that they are saved by grace, but how? It would do us good to look at some passages of scripture that shows us that we are saved by grace as a result of obeying the gospel of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

In Acts 20:32 we can see that we are able to be built up by the word of His grace and in Acts 15:27 we see that the word is the gospel. There it says "We have sent therefore Judas and Silas, who shall also tell you the same things by mouth." Here are two individuals that spoke the gospel of Christ which was delivered by the grace of God.

We are told that "we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand" (Rom 5:2). In 1 Cor 15:1 Paul says that we stand in the gospel. When we stand firm in the gospel of our Lord, God's grace will be with us.

In other comparisons we can see that grace appeared to "all men" in Titus 2:11 and that the gospel is to be preached to every creature in Colossians 1:23. Grace came by teaching (Tit 2:11-12) and the gospel came by teaching (Matt 28:19). We are saved by grace (Eph 2:8) and we're saved by the gospel (1 Cor 15:2).

We should be able to see then that as we obey the gospel and with it thereby saved, we likewise are saved by the grace of God who promises us salvation IF we do His will (Matt 7:21-23).
