Our Body Is For the Lord

Richard Thetford

Christians realize that this is true - our bodies are for the Lord “Now the body is not for fornication, but for the Lord; and the Lord for the body” (1 Corinthians 6:13). In today’s society it seems that just about "everything goes." People treat their bodies terribly and in ways that God never intended for the body that He made to be used. Fornication is running rampant, especially in our high schools of today. This is not what God ever intended for our bodies to go through. Our bodies are members of Jesus Christ. “Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ? Shall I then take the members of Christ and make them members of a harlot? Certainly not!” (1 Corinthians 6:15). Everything about Christ is pure. Nothing about fornication is pure. If one says that they are a Christian then they must also respect their body as being the Lord's and treat it as such. Paul tells the Corinthians that every sin that man does is outside the body, except fornication. Fornication is a sin against his own body. (1 Corinthians 6:18). Jesus said “If you love Me, keep My commandments” (John 14:15). God's commandment is to abstain from fornication. In 1 Thessalonians 4:3 it says “For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you should abstain from sexual immorality.” It further states “that each of you should know how to possess his own vessel in sanctification and honor” (1 Thessalonians 4:4). A Christian is someone that does everything within their power to obey the total commandments of God. Therefore, a Christian would not willingly sin against the Lord. A Christian would KNOW that their body is the Lord's.
